Penn State breaks 46 year old tradition to hire O’Brien as Head Coach

Penn State has announced that they have hired New England Patriots’ coordinator Bill O’Brien as its new head coach, which is the first change in the position for them in almost five decades. The announcement hopefully draws the curtains on a turbulent period that had begun when the then head coach Joe Paterno was fired on Nov. 9 after allegations of child sexual abuse was filed against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. O’Brien is not only replacing Division 1′s most successful coach, but he also has the responsibility of guiding a program with an uncertain future.

Beckham Bares All for own H&M Body wear line

David Beckham unveiled his new range of body wear for the very first time and as expected has chosen a model close to home for his debut H&M collection. The first set of images from David Beckham’s Body wear collection for H&M has been publicized, featuring the soccer star himself as the model. This is the first time he is posing in his own underwear creations, which the sportsman’s in-house team has come up with. The bodies wear line marks a continuing partnership between Beckham and H&M, with oncoming seasonal developments of the body wear line expected soon. Sporting the collection’s vests and briefs, the celebrated footballer showcases his maiden independent foray into fashion designing. The collection also features a wide range of T-shirts, pyjamas and long johns.

Victoria Pendleton poses for FHM

There was a time when athletes were known, watched and read about for all matters pertaining to the sport they played. Today, the off field action has become as interesting as the on field action. Victoria Pendleton recently made headlines when she posed for FHM magazine. She is not the first female athlete to gain attention for her good looks and neither will she be the last. And it has to be admitted that there is a certain element of intrigue and interest that is generated by these new dimensions that athletes bring about to themselves. Continue reading

Pendleton daunted by retirement plan

What do you do when you dabble with a word like retirement but you are all of 31 years of age? Victoria Pendleton who for 20 years has known nothing beyond a life of cycling is suddenly grappling with the fact that she has to now find something new to do. This Olympic Gold medalist is for sure going to find herself at sea for a while. We all knew her as the Queen of British cycling and she has made us proud with her achievements. 15 medals including eight golds is no mean feat. Of course the life of a sportsperson is unlike any other and in Victoria’s case it isn’t very different.

McCauley breaks 1/2 Ironman bike record

New Zealand’s Cycling champion Gordon McCauley broke the record at the Taupo ½ Ironman Triathlon covering a distance of 90km in 2 hours and 7 minutes. What makes this win even more commendable is the fact that this was Gordon’s first ever triathlon. Here’s a man who planned, prepared, trained and finished the grueling course that to in record time. For anybody who follows a more glorified sport like football perhaps here’s a sneak peak at what it takes to be a cycling and triathlon champion and another reason why cycling is quickly gaining in popularity.
